This event now gets terrific publicity which we back with a leaflet to every home in Colchester and the surrounding area, a newspaper campaign and over one thousand posters backed by 10,000 flyers in shops, pubs and food outlets.

Our entrance fee to the public is £3.50 with free parking and programme.
The Colchester Oyster Festival 2013
Date: 7th September 2013
THE COLCHESTER ANNUAL OYSTER FESTIVAL 2013
Lower Castle Park
7th September 2013
10.30 – 5pm
As well as the wonderful food, gift and craft stalls we have each year there will be kiddie rides, boating lake and inflatables.
A beer and wine marquee will be there for the adults plus lots of oysters.
Picnic areas. With lots of food on sale – or bring your own picnic.
There will be lots of fun for all the family including the ever popular Great British Pie Eating Competition.
The Parade of the Oysters.
This year will have a Roman theme celebrating Colchester’s most famous food with its most famous conquerors. It is rumoured that the Romans came here because of our oysters. They wrote poems and ballads to the Colchester oyster.
Each year we try and find a different way of getting the first of the season’s oysters to the Festival. This year we are bringing them up the Colne in a Roman boat, probably the first time for 2000 years!
We are building a Roman vicus (settlement) with cooking and people showing you how Romans and their neighbours lived.
Try on Roman armour.
There will be terrific fights performed to the death by our gladiators.
All set in Britain’s most beautiful park.

This amazing one day annual event has been making headlines and breaking records for years now.
Over 12,000 people crammed into the High Street last year for this brilliant market. There is food and drink, presents, traditional and exotic hot food, loads of presents and fun.
It’s the only day of the year where you can walk along our historic High Street without traffic.
The market starts at 10.30am and closes at 5pm. At 11am there is the traditional ‘cake hurling’ by the mayor from the Town Hall gallery. Catch one and be lucky for a whole year!
